ACFN Identifies Available Federal Funding Resources for Health and
Wellness Programs

Many people do not know where to look for funding, so ACFN has put together a document that outlines several federal grants available to states, cities, communities and schools for health and wellness programs.

An important program to note is the "Got Breakfast" campaign. The http://www.frac.org/ Food Research and Action Center study "School Breakfast Scorecard: 2005" determined that last year states failed to access $382 million in federal funds that could have been used to provide breakfast to children who qualified for free or reduced price breakfasts.

To address this problem, Sens. Bob Dole and George McGovern unveiled the Got Breakfast campaign with partners Share Our Strength, The Alliance to End Hunger, National Dairy Council and East Side Entrees. The goal of this campaign is to promote the adoption of healthy breakfast and milk programs in school systems. As a part of this campaign, East Side Entrees has developed "breakfast breaks," prepackaged breakfast kits that include cereal, juice and another snack that can be purchased by school food service departments with an incentive of federal and state reimbursement rates for their purchases.
